With the coming out of iPods and mini components that provide us with musical entertainment, the lowly portable radio seems to be relegated to the background. Our old radios, while still working perfectly are left to gather dust in storage rooms or cabinets. We take them for granted. But portable radios are still our best friend in times of emergency. Every home should have emergency portable radios.
Portable radios are compact devices that can receive am and fm signals. They are great to take along in camping excursions to monitor the weather and be entertained. They are also useful to keep at home in times of calamity such as typhoons and floods, when people cannot venture out. They are usually powered by batteries or are hand cranked, which makes them very useful in times of power outage.
