VHF marine radios

For any sailor, safety is and should be the top priority. If you plan to travel more than a few miles offshore, VHF marine radio is a must even if it’s not required. Some recreational vessels specifically vessels less than 20m or 65.5 ft are not required to have one but for added security, every vessel should carry one. Better still, you should complement your radio with another radio and a satellite phone. You’ll never know when an emergency will happen.

Though satellite phones are clearer with their connection, VHF marine radios can give you weather warnings and updates and inform you of emergencies. A combination of both is preferred. Another item needed is an emergency position radio beacon. With that emergency system (VHF marine radio, satellite phone, emergency position beacon), you can now sail to your heart’s desire.
