Remote places with no electricity often make do with solar power. This type of power relies on energy that comes directly from the sun. The sun, as many people know, gives Earth two major forms of energy: heat and light. Solar powered systems utilize the energy in different ways. Some use the heat energy for heating while others convert the light energy into electricity.

A radio that runs on direct current or DC power can easily be transformed into a solar powered radio. All it needs is a solar panel which is a contraption that collects heat energy from the sun. A closed box with a transparent glass or plastic top is an example of a solar panel. This panel turns the radio into a solar radio by supplying the battery with electrical current. Many campers know this so they often take a solar radio along on their outings.
