LED flashlights
LED stands for light-emitting diode. It is an electronic light source and a semiconductor device that conducts electricity in just one direction. The LED was invented in the 1920s in Russia. A radio technician by the name of Oleg Vladimirovich Losev observed that diodes used in radio receivers produced light when current passed through them. His discovery was published in a Russian journal in 1927.
Recently, the use of LED in flashlights has become available. LED flashlights have the following advantages over ordinary flashlights:
~ use less battery energy
~ are more durable than conventional lightbulbs
~ emit constant light output even if batteries die away
~ are cheaper in the long run as they save battery costs
