Watch films on your PSP handheld. The Universal Media Disc or UMD is an optical disc medium that was developed by Sony for use on the Playstation Portable. This disc can hold up to 1.8GB of data. It was the first optical disc format to be used for any handheld video game system.

Although the primary use for the discs is to store games, the format is also used for the storage of UMD movies. To a lesser degree, even television shows for playback are now available for the PSP. Those videos are encoded in the MPEG-4 AVC format with the audio in ATRAC3plus.
